Photo Album Shareware
(Click for a screenshot)Almost two years ago, we purchased a digital camera to aid in our business and to cover events for CapeMayBeach.com. In that time we have cataloged over 1700 photos using a program that we developed ourselves called Photo Album. The program allows for easy entry of new photos and allows the user to associate "keywords" with each photo to aid in later retrieval. Lately, we have been giving copies of the programs to our friends with digital cameras. Now we're ready to give the program to the world! The program is stored in a self-extracting .exe file. Here are the steps to get the program:
- Download the self-extracting .exe file and save it to your desktop
Right-Click Here to Download right-click and choose "save link as" or "save target as";
then left-click on the "save" button of the "save as..." dialog box.
Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click on the icon for "pa_setup.exe" on your desktop. Click on the "Finish" button to setup the program. To run the program, double-click on the icon for "Photo Album" in the "Photo Album" program group.
- The built-in help will be useful for learning the ins and outs of the program. Here's a bit of an overview:
When we take a batch of photos, we create a folder called "rollx" (where x is some number 1,2,3,...) under the folder "c\data\photos\" and copy the photo files into the new folder. Then we start up the Photo Album program and choose the "Manage Photos" menu item. We next click on the "Add" button and the subsequent "Add" button. Then we click on the "Browse button" and select the new "rollx" folder. Then we choose the first photo file in the folder. We normally click on the "View" button next to get a reminder of the subject matter for the photo. The date and location fields are usually correct, so we click on "Save". Next, for each keyword we wish to associate with the photo, we Click on "Add" again. This time we choose the radio button "Add record to child" and then click on "Add". Next, we click on the next available line for keywords and choose a keyword from the drop-down list. If we're adding a new keyword, then we choose an old keyword and type over it to add the new one. After selection of a new or old keyword, we click the save key. There is no limit to the number of keywords that can be associated with an individual.
The unregistered version of the program will store up to 100 photographs. This will allow you to check out the program features including extensive help. To register the program for $24.95, click on the "buy now" button below. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for future revisions of the program.
